Cardiff City will be looking ahead to an important transfer window over the summer as Neil Harris gets the chance to put his own real stamp on the squad following his first season at the club.

The Bluebirds boss was appointed following Neil Warnock's exit back in November, but Harris was not given vast resources to improve the squad in January as loan trio Dion Sanderson, Brad Smith and Albert Adomah represented the only incomings.

This could mean the Cardiff squad is in for something of an overhaul over the summer with Harris surely keen to bolster his squad, while a number of players could leave the club regardless of which division Cardiff are plying their trade in.

Here, we take a look at two scenarios that could face the Bluebirds over the summer...

Josh Murphy could be on the move

Murphy was close to leaving the club in January as Scottish champions Celtic showed a serious interest in his services, according to Football Insider, and it would be no surprise to see the Parkhead outfit line up another swoop for the winger in the summer.

The former Norwich man has managed to re-establish himself in the Bluebirds' starting line-up in recent matches, and the fact he has now netted four goals in his last five matches means Celtic are likely to be retaining their interest in him at present.

Murphy's form between now and the end of the season could be pivotal to deciding whether Cardiff battle to keep hold of him at the end of the season, but the winger's inconsistency means the Welsh side could be interested in moving him on for the right fee.

Cardiff must enter the market for another creative player

This would not have been one of Harris' priorities in the January transfer window given the incredible form of Lee Tomlin this term, but the midfielder's recent injury blow means Cardiff's reliance on his services have been exposed in recent matches.

The Bluebirds have failed to find the net during their two clashes without Tomlin in the side, and this suggests that Harris needs to prioritise another player in the Tomlin mould to fill in for the 31-year-old when he is not available for selection.

It has become clear that the Bluebirds cannot always rely on their star man Tomlin to always be fully fit, while a potential creative addition over the summer could also act as the long-term successor for Tomlin in the attacking midfield role.
