Blackburn Rovers are hoping to finish in the Championship play-offs for the first time since their relegation from the Premier League in 2012.

The club are currently in their second season back in the Championship following a single season in League One over the 2017-2018 season.

Tony Mowbray's men have enjoyed a good run of form in recent months which have put them in touch distant of the top-six as the Championship reaches the business end of the season.

As ever, come the end of the season, there will be an expected amount of twist and turns when it comes to the summer transfer window, and Blackburn will be amongst those sides looking to strengthen their playing staff regardless of what division the club will be playing in.

Here we take a look at two potential transfer scenarios that could unfold at Ewood Park of the summer transfer window...

Veteran players look set to leave

Veteran first-team players Stewart Downing, Danny Graham, and Richie Smallwood are all on contracts at the club which are set to expire at the end of this season.

None of the trio are yet to be offered a new deal with the club and should all three end up leaving the club it could spell the beginning of a freshening up of the playing staff.

At 35, 34, and 29 respectively it could be likely that Rovers may look to some younger players to fill the void left by the trio if they leave the club.

Although Downing and Graham bring a wealth of experience to Mowbray's side, the club are likely to offer them new deals given their ages, with Richie Smallwood barely featuring for the team this term.

QUIZ: Do you know what year these 14 Rovers players joined the club?

A Jordan Rhodes reunion?

30-year-old Jordan Rhodes scored 84 goals in 169 appearances for Rovers between 2012 and 2016, before leaving for Middlesbrough.

Since then Rhodes has had spells with Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday, and it is at the latter where the striker's contract expires in the summer.

Should Rhodes become a free agent in the summer, he could become a logical target for Tony Mowbray's men, and although he hasn't enjoyed the most prolific time at Hillsborough, he could find his goalscoring form back at Ewood Park.

Rhodes should be in demand over the summer and it could be worth keeping an eye on Blackburn's position over a potential deal for their former forward.
