Brentford will be hoping that when the season eventually resumes, Thomas Frank can lead them into the play-offs and give them a shout of securing Premier League football.

The Bees might’ve had top-two ambitions earlier in the season, but the play-offs are a much more realistic now.

Frank will have the added bonus of a returning Pontus Jansson, with the Brentford skipper struggling with injury in the early part of 2020.

The Swedish international was a high-profile arrival at Brentford last summer, with the Bees securing something of a coup getting him out of Leeds United.

In the long-term, Jansson’s focus is going to be on winning promotion with Brentford, but this extended EFL beak gives us the opportunity to look back on other parts of Jansson’s career.

Here, we look at TWO facts you might not have known about the Brentford man…

Freestyle expert

Jansson is a tough-tackling central defender, whose no-nonsense style initially made him a hit in the UK.

Yet, he is something of a freestyle expert, with footage of him in his youth proving just how much skill the defender has.

Of course, he carries the ball out well from defence and has an eye for a good pass, but some of these skills are what you might expect to see from someone like Lionel Messi, not a Brentford centre-back.

Career doubts

Jansson and Leeds were the perfect fit at the perfect time in 2016, with the Whites offering the defender a chance to move to England and try his hand at the Championship.

He had a lot of success at Elland Road, but pre-Leeds, Jansson’s career wasn’t in a good place.

Torino were his parent-club as he headed to Leeds on loan, with Jansson’s career not really heading anywhere and his love for the game gone.

However, as he told the Yorkshire Evening Post in 2017, Leeds saved his career and put doubts to bed.
