Portsmouth missed their chance to climb back up the League One table last Saturday as they let a two-goal lead slip as they draw 2-2 to Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

The Gas equalised in the last minutes of the game, as Pompey keeper Craig MacGillivray put the ball into his own net in the third minute of stoppage time. The result leaves Pompey in 16th place, eight points behind Coventry City, who are in the final play-off place.

Kenny Jackett's side were tipped as contenders for automatic promotion prior to the season starting, as they lost in the play-off semi final to Sunderland last term.

Despite the pressure being Jackett to turn it around, it is clear that his players have not performed up to scratch so far, and the transfers of key figures over the summer such as Jamal Lowe have affected the way the team plays.

We look at two Pompey players who have not been at their best for their club this season...

John Marquis

The 29-year-old finished second in last season's League One goalscoring charts whilst at Doncaster, netting 21 times in 2018-19.

The Lewisham-born forward made the switch to Fratton Park this summer, hoping to replicate the form that led Doncaster to last season's play-offs.

Unfortunately, that has failed to materialise, as Marquis has found the net twice since the start of the season, most recently in the 1-0 win against Lincoln City.

The team will be relying on him, especially in Brett Pitman's continuing absence.

Ellis Harrison

Harrison was signed in the summer from Ipswich Town, for a fee believed to be £450,000.

Despite Kenny Jackett being an admirer of Harrison over the past few seasons, signing him was a risk. The 25-year old has found the net just once in the League, although he has made seven appearances off the bench.

In ten appearances, Harrison has managed ten shots - a shot per game. Five were off target, and four were on target, resulting in one goal. This shows that he is not being clinical enough with his finishing, but it also shows he could produce more if he started games for Pompey.

He will be hoping to address his goals problem soon, as the team have struggled to find the net - averaging just over a goal per game.
