Swansea boss Graham Potter was dealt an injury blow heading into the festive period, as it was revealed that defender Martin Olsson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after he underwent Achilles surgery.

The Swedish international ruptured his Achilles in the 3-2 win over Brentford at the weekend, and it has ruled him out for the rest of this season.

This latest news will come as hugely frustrating for the Swansea boss, and he now has a dilemma on his hands ahead of their clash with Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Olsson has already made 17 appearances in total for the Swans, and he would have been a key figure in their promotion push this season.

But, with Olsson now out of action, Potter will be relying on players to step up and to perform to a high standard if they are to challenge for promotion.

Which TWO players in particular need to step up, though?

Find out here....

John is the only recognised left-back available to Potter heading into the festive set of fixtures, and he certainly has a point to prove to the Swansea boss.

The 23-year-old has only made two starts for Potter's side this season after arriving in the summer from Scottish giants, Rangers.

It's vital that he settles down at the club as quickly as possible so that he can play a crucial role in their play-off push.

Grimes isn't a recognised left-back, but he has the ability to play the position.

He has a good left foot and would keep the balance of the side well.

Although John is a left-back, you get the feeling that this is the route Potter will take.
