Sheffield Wednesday are facing a pivotal period in their season in the January transfer window and the business that they conduct could go a long way to helping their promotion challenge.

Darren Moore side have struggled to put enough consistent wins together to break into the top-six in League One at this stage, but they are keeping pace with the top six and are on an 11 game unbeaten run in the English third.

That means that they should be in a good position in January to do the sensible business that helps them improve in the second half of the campaign.

The Owls will also need to consider any potential fringe players that they would like to move out the door in the winter window to make room for more additions. While there will also be one or two of their best performers that might emerge on the radars of other clubs ahead of the January window opening.

With that in mind, we take a look at TWO Sheffield Wednesday players that could leave the club during the winter transfer window…

One player that Sheffield Wednesday will be desperate to keep hold of in the January transfer window is Josh Windass, with the attacker having shown what he can bring to the table for the Owls by firing home two goals in his two League One appearances since he returned to action from injury.

Windass was a player that was sought after during the summer window following the Owls’ relegation from the Championship. However, it seemed that talk of him leaving Hillsborough might have been put to bed when he put pen to paper on a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday.

However, Sheffield Wednesday are now set to face more interest in Windass in the January transfer window. Football League World believes that the likes of West Brom, Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Hull City are all interested in making a move for the attacker.

It will be interesting to see if Sheffield Wednesday are willing to listen to offers for Windass in January because if they lose him it would be a huge blow for their promotion push.

However, he has only played two games for them in the league so far this term, so the Owls are able to pick up results without him in their side.

Korede Adedoyin

At the other end of the scale to Windass, one player that Sheffield Wednesday could be actively looking to move on temporarily in January is young forward Korede Adedoyin. That comes with the 21-year-old having been unable to break into Moore’s squad for any game in League One this term.

Adedoyin is a player with talent but he now needs to start getting regular game time at first-team level rather than playing solely for the Owls’ under-23s.

A recent report from the Sheffield Star has confirmed that the forward is a player that the club are going to look to find a loan club for during the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old would face a vital period in his loan spell wherever he ends up because his current deal with the Owls is due to expire in the summer. That means that he would have to show strong form to try and convince Moore’s side to hand him a new deal ahead of the start of next term.
