Cardiff City are facing a pivotal period over the next month where they will need to try and continue their early improvements under Steve Morison and also focus attention on the transfer window.

The Bluebirds have endured a difficult season so far, but their results have at least picked up a little since Morison took over from Mick McCarthy. He has managed to secure three wins for Cardiff in their last five Championship fixtures to move them five points clear of the relegation places.

The January transfer window will be a chance for Morison to assess the squad and bring in his own players so that he can continue to edge the Bluebirds further clear of any relegation danger. However, he might have to work with a reduced budget and use the loan market wisely to add some talented players to his squad.

There could also be one or two players that Cardiff either look to move on or are forced to move in the winter window. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what interest emerges in some of the Bluebirds’ players over the course of the next month.

With that in mind, we take a look at TWO players that could potentially leave Cardiff in the January transfer window…

Kieffer Moore

One player that Cardiff might see transfer interest emerge in once again during the January transfer window is Keiffer Moore. The Wales international was sought after in the summer following his impressive performances for the Bluebirds last term when he scored 20 league goals.

Wolves were the side that showed the most amount of interest in Moore during the summer, but in the end, it was reported that they were put off making a move for the striker by Cardiff’s £10 million valuation on him. Since then, the Premier League side have signed Hee-Chan Hwang and that could mean their need to sign him has been reduced.

Moore’s value now is probably slightly lower than it was in the summer due to the fact that he has not been as prolific in front of goal this term in the Championship.

Having said that, the Bluebirds could ideally do without selling their main scorer at this stage in a campaign where they are struggling down the wrong end of the table.

It will all depend on the amount of interest there is in Moore, selling him would provide Morison with funds and the scope to do a lot more to change the dynamics of his squad. However, it would be a major risk to sell him because goals would look thin on the ground without him in the squad.

Joel Bagan

The departure of McCarthy at Cardiff and the subsequent appointment of Morison has seen Joel Bagan lose his place as a regular in the squad for the Bluebirds in the Championship. The defender had managed to make nine starts and ten appearances in the league before the change took place in the dugout.

Morison has recently suggested to Wales Online that he does not feel it is the best time to be putting Bagan into the side week in and week out in the Championship. That has seen him go back to playing for the Bluebirds’ under-23s where he has been able to show some strong form over the last few weeks.

A loan spell away from Cardiff in January could be ideal for Bagan as it is unlikely that he would be able to make many more first-team appearances for the Bluebirds under Morison this term.

It would be vital that the right temporary destination was selected for him though because there would be no point in sanctioning a move only for him to sit on the bench elsewhere.

Bagan might then be able to come back to Cardiff a new player in the summer and be ready to try and stake a claim for regular involvement in the first-team once again.
