Nottingham Forest have been one of the early-season strugglers in the Championship and after sacking manager Phillipe Montanier, the club has been in somewhat disarray.

Good results have been hard to come by and fans have been growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of wins this campaign, particularly in front of the home crowd.

It’s clear things needed to pick up and that’s certainly happened over the past couple of weeks, particularly in terms of January additions.

With no new manager at the helm, signings have still been made and there are two players in particular who we think have the potential to really make a difference at the City Ground during the rest of this campaign.

It’s a bold call indeed but we think there are two New Year additions that single-handedly could have the quality to turn Forest into promotion chasers.

So, with that in mind, here’s 2 January signings that could see Forest end their relegation worries and become top-six chasers…

Ross McCormack

The first Aston Villa loanee to make this list is Ross McCormack, whose had a torrid time since his big-money transfer to the Midlands this summer.

He was one of Roberto Di Matteo’s doomed transfers and his move to Villa Park hasn’t worked out in the slightest. He’s been an outcast after failing to turn up to training but he has the chance to really kick on at Forest and help them climb the table.

We know he’s a player who is more than good enough at scoring goals at this level and Forest are calling out for a man who can hit the back of the net week in, week out.

If he can start doing that there’s only one way Forest are going in the coming weeks and that’s up the table.

Aaron Tshibola

After the sale of Henri Lansbury (coincidentally) to Aston Villa this month, Nottingham Forest desperately needed a replacement to come into the midfield for the second half of the season.

And they pulled off one of the coups of the window, bringing in former Reading midfielder Aaron Tshibola from Steve Bruce’s Villa.

He’s struggled to break into the first-team in the Midlands all season despite the promise surrounding his development this future but for managerless Forest, it’s an excellent addition.

He’s a burly, tough-tackling midfielder who has plenty of experience at this level. If there was one player who is up to the job of replacing the ever-influential Lansbury, it’s Tshibola and he certainly carries enough quality to hoist the Reds up the table.
