Sunderland had a season to forget in the Premier League, as they were relegated from the top tier after only being able to amass 24 points from 38 games, which saw them finish bottom of the table.

Following the season drawing to a close, David Moyes resigned from his position as first team manager, which now leaves the board looking for a new man to guide the team in the Championship.

The new manager is going to have a huge task in rebuilding a side who've been on their knees for years now, with Jordan Pickford's sale likely to create much of the funds.

Another big job that the new manager will face, is to find a replacement for the club's top scorer this term and outgoing Jermain Defoe, who has left the club to join Bournemouth.

Defoe found the back of the net on 15 occasions this season for the Black Cats and contributed 2 assists.

Two players that the club should look to sign is Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths and Walsall's Erhun Otzumer.

Leigh Griffiths

The 26-year-old Scottish international has just helped Celtic to the treble this season, and has scored over 80 goals since making his move to Celtic Park from Wolves back in 2014.

With Griffiths goal scoring record in Scotland, it is clear to see he certainly knows where the back of the net is and would be a terrific replacement for Defoe.

Erhun Oztumer

The Walsall attacking midfielder had a terrific season this campaign finding the back of the net on 15 occasions and providing 5 assists.

Oztumer can also drop a little deeper and play central midfield, offering versatility to any side he plays in, and with the goalscoring record and creativity, he could prove to be a very shrewd investment for the Black Cats.
