Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to get back to winning ways as they prepare to face Huddersfield Town this weekend, with Garry Monk taking his place in the Owls' dugout for the very first time.

The Owls have endured a mixed start to the season, winning three of their opening six games, losing three and occupying 11th spot in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Monk will now be looking to claim his first win in charge of the Owls, as he prepares to come against another new manager in Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley.

It was a hectic summer up at Hillsborough - the Owls were rocked by the departure of Steve Bruce to Newcastle United, but Lee Bullen took the reins on a temporary basis and oversaw plenty of incomings and outgoings.

There are still some players at the club who will be disappointed at their lack of game-time in the early stages of the season and are likely to be eagerly awaiting the January transfer window already.

Here, we take a look at two Wednesday players who should have been loaned out in the summer...

Jordan Rhodes

Rhodes spent last season on loan with Norwich City, scoring nine goals for the Canaries in all competitions and helping them win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

But the 29-year-old's disappointing spell with the Owls has continued upon his return to Hillsborough, failing to find the back of the net in only three appearances this term.

Plenty of Wednesday fans - particularly on social media - slated Rhodes' body language after they scored a last-minute winner in the Carabao Cup against Rotherham United last month.

He looks disinterested, and a loan move to another Championship side could have been the best option for him.

Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri, Atdhe Nuhiu and Sam Winnall will all be fighting for a place in the side this season, and it remains to be seen if Rhodes is in Monk's plans or not.

Joe Wildsmith

Wildsmith's chances of receiving regular game-time increased under Jos Luhukay last season, with the 23-year-old playing back-up to Cameron Dawson due to Keiren Westwood being frozen out at Hillsborough.

But Westwood was quickly reintroduced when Steve Bruce took charge, and he has since been an almost ever-present for the Owls this term, pushing Wildsmith back down to third-choice in the pecking order.

Wildsmith, who made only two appearances last season, needs to be playing week in, week out at this stage of his career.

It's not doing him any good being left in the stands on a weekly basis, and a loan move to a League One side could have been great for his confidence.
