Rotherham United will be hoping they can extend their lead over their promotion rivals in the League One table at the earliest of opportunities.

However, the Millers will be hoping they can get back to winning ways this weekend, after they surprisingly dropped points against AFC Wimbledon in their last match.

Paul Warne's side have been in impressive form over the festive period though, which has seen them move to the top of the third-tier standings.

With 13 games of their season still to play, they won't be getting ahead of themselves by any stretch of the imagination, especially given that only five points separate Rotherham and seventh-placed Ipswich Town.

So, it's going to be a nervy and hectic finish to the league campaign this season, but Paul Warne will be hoping that he can get his side over the line so that they can make a swift return to the Championship.

We take a look at TWO Rotherham United players that Warne should look to sell if they're to win promotion into the Championship this season.

Billy Jones

Jones has only made nine league appearances this season for Rotherham United, and it seems as though it'll only be a matter of time before he departs.

He's behind Adam Thompson and Matthew Olosunde in the pecking order in Paul Warne's plans at full-back, and he hasn't featured in the matchday squad since their defeat to Portsmouth back in November 2019.

The 32-year-old has experience of playing at a higher level with the likes of West Brom and Sunderland, but he is out of contract at the end of this year's campaign, and he hasn't done enough to warrant a new deal with the Millers.

Jamie Lindsay

This might come as a surprise but Lindsay hasn't featured much in this year's league campaign due to the strong performances shown by the likes of Matt Crooks and Daniel Barlaser.

In total, Lindsay has made 26 appearances in all competitions, and will know that he faces a real battle to get into Paul Warne's starting XI on a consistent basis.

If he isn't starting much in League One for the Millers, then it seems hard to believe that he'll be a regular whilst they're in the Championship.

It wouldn't come as a surprise to see him sold at the start of next season, as Rotherham look to make space for new additions to their squad, if they win promotion into the second-tier.
