Despite a short-lived upturn in form, Millwall are still well and truly in the midst of a relegation battle.

The Lions are one point off the bottom three and face Norwich City this weekend heading into the third international break of the season.

Neil Harris’ men surprised everyone with their eighth-place finish last term but have so far struggled to replicate their season-ending form.

Millwall strengthened in the summer but looking at their league position, January additions will be needed.

Harris has already issued his plans for the New Year and depending on their position; his stance could change.

The club received around £8million for the sale of George Saville in August and having spent £2million of that already on Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Leonard; there is still a few bob in the kitty yet for the Lions to spend and try to move away from the bottom three.

With some money to spend and Millwall in need to strengthening to move away from the bottom three, here are two payers Harris should seriously consider bringing to Millwall in January.

Steve Morison isn’t getting any youngster, and Tom Elliott has been mostly disappointing since his arrival to the cub back in 2017, the Lions are in need of a decent target man for now and the future.

QPR’s Matt Smith had been a target when he was at Leeds United, before a move to Fulham.

The 29-year-old has only started two games for the Hoops this year and is behind loanee Tomer Hemed in the pecking order.

He is at the prime age and the quintessential target man that Neil Harris likes to use in the system he plays.

The Lions should do all they can to try and sign the QPR man this winter.

Ben Marshall’s move to Norwich has not panned out as well as he would have hoped.

Injury has played a part, but when he has featured, it has mainly been from right-back.

The winger has three-and-and-half years left on his contract after moving to Carrow Road on the back of an immensely successful loan spell at The Den last year.

A permanent capture looks off the cards financially, but a loan move for the out-of-favour wide man could be a wise move.

It is a situation Neil Harris must certainly monitor now and closer to the window opening for a chance to pounce on the re-signing Marshall.
