Leeds United reopened the gap between themselves and the chasing pack following their 1-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday.

The Whites successfully took advantage of results elsewhere which saw the rest of the top seven fail to win at the weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are now in a great position to build on this win and continue to maintain their push for automatic promotion.

Leeds blew their automatic promotion chances with just four games to go last term, failing to win any of their final four games to allow Sheffield United to overtake them and take the final automatic promotion place.

Following United’s capitulation in the play-offs last term, fans will be desperate to see United get over the line and win automatic promotion to the Premier League this time around.

Should Marcelo Bielsa’s men manage to get over the line this term there will undoubtedly be a summer of speculation and excitement around Elland Road, especially when discussing potential transfers over the summer window.

There will, of course, most likely be a number of departures should United reach the Premier League, and here, we take a look at two players United should look to sell should they be promoted...

Barry Douglas

Much was made about the Scot’s arrival at Elland Road back in 2018 but it may be fair to say that the left-back hasn’t lived up to his potential we saw at Wolves in their promotion campaign the season before.

The 30-year-old made 26 league appearances for the Whites last term and chipped in with five assists, but has so far this time around he has seen his opportunities limited.

So far this season, Douglas has only managed 11 league appearances with a number of these limited to the final few minutes of games.

With his contract not due to expire until 2021, the Scot may be one of the first names on the transfer-list over the summer should United win promotion.

Conor Shaughnessy

Some United fans may be forgiven for forgetting that Shaughnessy is still at Elland Road, given his lack of game time since his arrival in 2016.

The Irishman joined the Whites back when Garry Monk was in charge and has since only managed 15 appearances for the first-team.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the 23-year-old has only managed two appearances on the bench and has had loan spells at Hearts, Mansfield Town and Burton Albion.

Like Douglas, Shaughnessy’s contract is not up until 2021 and at only 23 he is a player United should look to get off their books should they reach the Premier League.

Shaughnessy will likely attract interest from League One clubs or even some Championship sides and it would benefit his career if he was to leave Elland Road in the summer.
