Sheffield Wednesday are looking to build on the success of last season where under Carlos Carvalhal and new chairman Dejphon Chansiri they reached the playoff final only to lose 1-0 to Hull.

Still this represented large improvement from previous seasons and they will look to push on this year after making some good additions to the squad in the summer.

Steven Fletcher was brought in and is currently top scorer whilst new signings Adam Reach and Almen Abdi have settled in well. Fernando Forestieri is still the key man up front though continuing his good link up play with Barry Bannan and Gary Hooper.

Wednesday have had an inconsistent start to the season but 4 wins in 5 games in September has them currently sitting 6th and top 2 will certainly be the ambition.

Wednesday have a wealth of options up front and plenty of talent to bring off the bench and here are TWO impact players Carvalhal should utilise this season:

Marco Matias

The talented winger burst on to the scene last year with a phenomenal volley against Leeds which earned him the Goal of the Season accolade.

His pace and skill is outstanding but he did struggle for consistency last year and was usurped in the squad by Barry Bannan. This year he has even more competition in the shape of Adam Reach and Urby Emmanuelson but the exciting midfielder has the talent to make a big difference at Hillsborough this season.

Lucas Joao

The Portuguese striker hasn't had as many chances as he would of hoped for this season with the arrival of Steven Fletcher making his prospects of playing even slimmer than last season. Forestieri and Hooper are the 2 likeliest strikers with Fletcher third choice but Joao would certainly offer something off the bench if Wednesday were struggling.

He is excellent in the air and is a clinical finisher with the 23-year-old scoring 6 goals last season plus the Portuguese international is tipped by Carvalhal to achieve big things.
