Barnsley have endured a really challenging season during their first campaign back in the Championship, following the Tykes' promotion from League One last term.

The Tykes got off to the perfect start to the season managing to secure a victory at home to Fulham on the opening day of the season, but they then went on a ten game winless run in the league and that prompted them to part company with manager Daniel Stendel.

Barnsley have somewhat improved their form since Gerhardt Struber took charge, and they secured a 3-0 win at Fulham last weekend, but they are still sitting bottom of the table and six points adrift of safety, which will make it difficult for them to stay up this term.

Here then, we take a look at TWO players Barnsley should look to cash in on if they suffer relegation to League One...

Cauley Woodrow

If Barnsley were to suffer relegation to League One, they would likely be needing to raise some extra funds in the transfer market so they can make the signings needed to give them the best chance of bouncing back to the Championship at the first time of asking next term.

Woodrow is one of the club's most sellable assets, with the striker having managed to fire in 19 goals in all competitions last term to spearhead the Tykes' promotion back to the Championship - and the forward has continued that form into this term scoring 13 goals in the league in a struggling side.

That is likely to make Woodrow a player in demand during the summer transfer window, if Barnsley are relegated, and the 25-year-old has shown that he has the quality needed to make him a reliable performer in the English second tier, so the Tykes might be forced to cash in the forward whose current deal expires in 2022.

Alex Mowatt

For similar reasons to Woodrow, Barnsley could be forced into having to sell Mowatt in the summer should they suffer relegation, so that they can raise some extra funds for Struber to add to his squad, which will be needed if the Tykes are mount a promotion challenge.

Mowatt has been one of Barnsley's standout performers throughout the season, with the attacking midfielder scoring three goals and registering seven assists in 31 Championship appearances so far this term, which has made him an integral part of the Tykes midfield.

The 25-year-old was linked with a potential move to Nottingham Forest in January, and it is highly likely that Barnsley would have to field more interest in him in the summer were they to be relegated to League One, which means they could potentially have little option but to cash in on the midfielder and reinvest in the squad.
