It's been somewhat of a slow start to the season for Rochdale, as they look to stay clear of the relegation zone this season in League One.

But they picked up a much-needed three points with hard-fought 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley at the Crown Oil Arena.

They took the lead shortly before the half-time whistle through Ian Henderson to make Brian Barry-Murphy's team-talk a bit easier.

Henderson wasted no time in adding to goal tally this season as he netted his second of the game to give the home side some breathing space.

Their two-cushion didn't last long though with Joe Pritchard pulling a goal back for Accrington Stanley.

Despite some intense pressure towards the end from the visitors, Rochdale held on to move up to 18th in the League One table heading into their game against Bolton Wanderers this weekend.

In our latest FLW Spotlight, we look into Henderson's performance in more detail after his match-winning display.

Henderson is showing that age is just a number after his impressive start to the season sees him sit on seven goals after Rochdale's opening 12 league games of this year's campaign.

The brace against Accrington Stanley was his second in as many games after he scored twice in a defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the previous weekend.

The 34-year-old won two offensive duels against John Coleman's side, which shows that he had a relatively tough afternoon against the three centre-backs that Stanley played with on the day.

But surprisingly, Henderson had a quiet game apart from his two goals, with the forward not making any successful dribbles during the win, which might prove that he makes an impact when required.

He attempted 21 passes, and with a pass accuracy of 62%, it does that there is room for improvement as the season edges closer to the potentially season-defining festive period.

Henderson is likely to start Rochdale's next game against Bolton Wanderers at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday, and he'll go there full in confidence.

With seven league goals to his name, he couldn't think of a better team to come up against, with the Trotters still struggling to fire themselves out of the relegation zone.

But Keith Hill's side have shown improvement since several senior players were signed on Deadline Day, and they won't be a pushover by any stretch of the imagination.

Henderson has the experienced head that Rochdale need to be leading their line though, and he's likely to fancy his chances of scoring 20+ goals this season for the Dale as they look to retain their status as a League One club for another season.
