Rotherham gaffer Paul Warne has already dipped into the National League talent pool this summer by securing the signing of Tranmere Rovers centre back Michael Ihiekwe and it is expected he will return to snap up some more of the division's hottest talents.

The Millers are keen to strengthen their squad in a number of areas as they aim to mount a promotion push next season and return back to The Championship at the first time of asking, following their shambolic relegation last season.

One area which will be especially high on the manager's list of problem positions is that of a prolific striker.

With last season's top scorer Danny Ward expected to be departing the club this summer, the club will be left with only three contracted strikers in the shape of Jerry Yates, Dexter Blackstock and Jonson Clarke-Harris.

None of these are renowned as prolific out and out goal scorers so at least one more forward should be added to the Rotherham squad.

Local media outlet The Star reported that Warne is ready to raid non league clubs in search of a striker and this article is going to take a look at two potential names who may be topping his shopping list...

Andy Cook

Rotherham United have already plucked one player from the clutches of Tranmere Rovers this summer in the form of Michael Ihiekwe, and prolific striker Andy Cook is another that will surely be on Paul Warne's radar.

The 26-year-old will have caught the eye of a number of Football League clubs after his impressive goal scoring exploits in the National League last season.

The front man netted 23 goals for the club last season at an average of a goal every 128 minutes.

Prior to moving to Tranmere, Cook excelled for Barrow, scoring 47 times in 92 appearances for the club.

It is clear Cook has the natural instincts of a prolific goal scorer and is deserving of a move to the Football League.

Oliver Hawkins

Another non-league front man that The Millers could potentially take a punt on this close season is Dagenham & Redbridge striker Oliver Hawkins.

The 25-year-old knocked in 19 goals in 44 appearances last season for The Daggers and was certainly one of the club's stand out performers.

Hawkins has previously represented fellow non-league sides Northwood, Hemel Hempstead Town and Harrow Borough.

Hawkins averaged a goal every 176 minutes in the National League last season and is another who is deserving of the chance to display his talents on a bigger stage.
