Since their promotion via the play offs from League One last season, Charlton have been one of the surprise packages of the Championship and are now in 8th position following their 3-0 win over Derby at The Valley on Saturday.

Lee Bowyer's side were clinical against the Rams and set the tone as Macauley Bonne's goal after six minutes left Derby struggling to get back into the game

Charlton limited Derby to very few chances and the solid structure sums up Lee Bowyers approach with Charlton this season and he will have been delighted to keep a clean sheet, the Addicks fourth of the season.

Charlton travel to Bristol City this evening in what will be a difficult test against a side who have also started the season well.

However, Bowyer and Charlton fans will be expectant knowing that a good win could see them level on points with second placed Leeds.

Here are two defining moments of Charlton's season so far.

Unbeaten in first six

Charlton were a team who made one of the best starts to the Championship season as they went unbeaten in their first six fixtures.

During this run, they picked up an impressive 14 points, scored 11 goals and only conceded 5 which would have been the level of performance Bowyer demands from his side.

Although their form has been less consistent of late, Charlton have still managed to pick up important wins against Leeds and Derby, showing their capability to take on the leagues top teams and challenge for promotion this year.

Their solid start to the season will provide Charlton with a platform to push on and the fans will be delighted with their return to the Championship after three seasons in League One.

3-0 win over Derby

Charlton produced one of their best performances of the season against a Derby side who were looking to gather momentum after going unbeaten in their last five.

It was a difficult time to play Derby, but Charlton took their chances and looked almost unbreakable in defence, allowing Derby to have the ball and limiting them to just four shots on goal throughout the game.

This defensive setup is key to Bowyer's philosophy and scoring three goals was almost an added bonus for the structured side, especially considering they are without their talisman Lyle Taylor at present.

This recent performance will give Bowyer confidence in his side's ability to continue picking up points which will be vital as the season progresses.
