Nottingham Forest are still finding their feet under Mark Warburton in the Sky Bet Championship, and a mixed start to the 2017/18 campaign has been confirmation that the Reds still have a lot of room for improvement.

After guiding Forest to safety at the end of last season, Warburton enjoyed a busy summer, adding some real quality to his squad at the City Ground.

Warburton’s side picked up three victories from their opening four fixtures of the Championship season, impressing many with some exceptional performances.

However, Forest have managed to pick up just two victories from their last seven fixtures, a run of form that has seen Warburton’s side slip behind the top-six and into 13th.

Forest certainly don’t look like a team that will be fighting relegation under Warburton this year, but they still have a lot to learn if they are to challenge for the play-offs.

With that in mind, here is a look at TWO mistakes Warburton has made since his arrival…

Failing to sign an experienced GK

Forest moved to sign Adam Federici late in the summer transfer window, with the hope that the Australian would be the final piece of Warburton’s summer transfer business.

However, the experienced goalkeeper suffered a disappointing injury and has since returned to his parent-club, AFC Bournemouth.

Of course, those circumstances were out of Warburton’s hands, however, if Forest had moved earlier in the summer transfer window to sign an experienced goalkeeper, they could have avoided the situation they currently find themselves in.

Zach Clough

Clough is an extremely talented midfielder, who can bring goals and assists to Warburton’s side.

However, Warburton has handed Clough just three starts from Forest’s opening 11 fixtures, and there is a real feeling at the City Ground that the 22-year-old deserves more of an opportunity.

Kieran Dowell has been preferred in the number 10 role so far this season, and has done well, but Warburton is making a huge mistake by not playing Clough regularly.
