It's been a pretty steady start to life in the Championship for Middlesbrough this year with them needing more consistency if they are really going to challenge.

The men from the Riverside were expected by many to be one of the title challengers this season but right now they are off the top six pace and that is something they need to fix quickly.

Garry Monk, then, needs to start finding answers pretty soon before they start getting cut adrift and it'll be interesting to see if he comes back from the international break with any new ideas with the fixtures set to pile up.

Meanwhile, though, we've been thinking about his Boro tenure so far and we reckon that these two mistakes are what is really holding him back.

Click through, then, to see what we think Monk could have done differently up to now on Teesside...

Has too many attackers

Whilst the signing of Britt Assombalonga was an impressive one in the summer, Monk doesn't really know the best attacking line he should be putting out.

He's got Assombalonga, Patrick Bamford, Rudy Gestede, Ashley Fletcher, Martin Braithwaite and Adama Traore to all try and fit in and, more often than not, at least some are playing a bit out of position. Attacking options are important, but Monk seems to have too many to try and keep happy.

Chopping and changing

When Monk was at Leeds United he didn't seem to know his best line-up at times and it seems as though that is the case for Boro too right now.

Of course, he is still getting used to the club but he should be starting to have an idea of the team he wants to play regularly. With all the different options he has, though, it's hard for him to put a finger on his best XI and, though strength in depth is important, a consistently selected team is also key if you're going to get results.
