The main talking point at The Den of late has been who is going to replace Neil Harris and take the reigns at Millwall.

Lions fans were left feeling positive after defeating rivals Leeds United 2-1 in south-east London last time out, in the first game after Harris stepped down from his position, with Adam Barrett taking caretaker charge.

Rumour had it that there were three main contenders lined up for the job: current caretaker boss Adam Barrett, Gary Rowett and Gareth Ainsworth.

It has been reported today that Ainsworth is committed to Wycombe Wanderers, despite also being linked with the Sunderland post before ex-Bolton boss Phil Parkinson was announced as Jack Ross' replacement earlier.

Regardless of who the new boss will be at The Den, one thing is for certain that the young players in the academy will want to impress any prospective new manager and force their way into the first team, so they can show what they can do in front of the Cold Blow Lane faithful.

Here are two players that we think could be worth keeping an eye on at Millwall this season and in the future…

Billy Mitchell

The 19-year-old central midfielder got his first minutes in a Lions shirt last season in a Championship fixture against Wigan Athletic, and will be hoping to impress any potential new manager at The Den.

Former boss Neil Harris described Mitchell as being a 'Millwall Boy' at the time of his League debut, and the youngster should take confidence from the previous manager's encouragement.

He received his first start in a blue and white shirt in a Football League Trophy fixture against Oxford United back in August.

George Alexander

It was in the same match as Mitchell that Alexander received his first-team debut, which you can imagine would've been special for the 19-year-old son of former Lion Gary Alexander.

The debut was thoroughly deserved - the forward was the top scorer last season for both the Under-18's and Under-21's, which caused Harris to sit up and take notice.

The Millwall connection that Alexander has will surely please Lions fans, and the youngster signed a professional contract with the club at the beginning of the current season.
