Salford City have a lot to be pleased about almost three months into their first season in League Two.

The Ammies reached the English Football League for the first time in their history at the end of last season by beating AFC Fylde in the National League play-off final.

Graham Alexander's side are 12th in the table as things stand and will be extremely confident of ensuring they can extend their stay in the fourth tier of English football–as they're 11 points clear of the relegation zone already.

After a slow start, which saw them win just once in their first eight games, Salford have picked up four wins in their last eight and may now be eyeing up the play-off places, which are just six points away.

Salford have won four promotions in their last five seasons and while achieving a fifth in the 2019/20 campaign looks like something of a pipedream, there is a long way to go this season.

It has not all been plain sailing for the League Two side and Alexander may be looking to bolster his squad in the upcoming January transfer window to try and solve some of the issues facing him.

With that in mind, here are the two major concerns Salford City will have ahead of the January transfer window.

Their leaky defence.

Salford have conceded 24 goals in 16 games this season, putting them amongst the leakiest defences in the division.

That is perhaps no surprise given they were playing National League football last season but the Ammies have the worst defensive record of any side in the top half of League Two, which suggests that it is something they need to assess if they're going to climb up the table.

It wouldn't be surprising if Alexander looks to address that in the January transfer window, either by bringing in defenders with football league experience or looking to add some loanees from clubs higher up the divisions.

The form of Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.

The 25-year-old hit the ground running at the start of the season, scoring three times in his first five League Two games, but has fallen away since.

He has failed to register either a goal or an assist in his last 11 games in all competitions and has lost his place in the starting XI as a result.

If Dieseruvwe continues to struggle, Salford may look to the transfer market in January to add some more firepower for the second half of the season.
