Hull City currently sit firmly in mid-table on 19 points having recently won 2-0 at home to Derby County.

Hull are very much stuck in between the clubs battling against relegation and those pushing for promotion. They sit seven points clear of Middlesbrough in the relegation zone and five points behind Bristol City in sixth.

Hull’s last result was a 2-0 win at the KCOM Stadium against a struggling Derby County side, with Jarrod Bowen scoring both goals in the second half. Bowen has been the Tigers’ star player once again this season, scoring eight goals so far.

Bowen has been an ever-present for Hull since the start of last season and has justifiably attracted high-profile attention, with Premier League clubs looking to sign the 22-year-old. Manager Grant McCann has a task on his hands dealing with what will be a difficult January window, with offers almost certain to come in for their star man, Bowen.

Here, we take a look at two major concerns Hull City will have ahead of the January window…

Keeping Bowen

Grant McCann revealed this week that the club are in talks to renew Jarrod Bowen’s contract, with clubs beginning to circle. The contract would hopefully ward off any potential interest for the attacker, or at least allow Hull to command a much higher fee should they need to sell.

It is clear that Bowen’s future lies in the Premier League whether that be with his current club or away from East Yorkshire. The club understands this and will hope that the new contract offer can convince Bowen to give Hull every chance to push for promotion while he is still here.

The player appears unfazed by the interest that has surrounded him for a while and remains fully focused on his Hull City performances, which the club will hope is an indication of his intentions.

Adding goals around key players

In Bowen and Kamil Grosicki, Hull possess two of the most potent wingers in the league. The pair have scored 12 between them and assisted five this season, on top of a combined 31 goals and 16 assists last season. The Tigers’ problem from there is that no one else in the team is consistently contributing to their tally with minor tallies propping up the rest of the team.

If Hull are to push towards the play-off places they need to recruit players who can help shoulder the goal-scoring burden currently held by Bowen and Grosicki.

The concern lays in the fact that a lot of clubs in the league will be looking to strengthen in this area, and finding the right deal might be difficult. Competing for players often ends with one paying over the odds for a player who might not be worth the fee, Hull must work very smartly in the January market to add quality up front or risk falling short again.
