Luton Town have made a good start to the new Championship season, accumulating 24 points from their opening 17 games.
Given the close nature of the Championship table, The Hatters are a mere two points from the play-off positions, with securing a top-six spot come May well within the realms of possibility.
Not only have Luton seen consistent improvements in their league position over the last few years, but their recently formed U21 development squad is also starting to deliver players who are nearing first-team contention.
Here, we take a look at two youngsters at Luton who look set for a very bright future in the game…
Quiz: Have Luton Town ever won an away game at each of these 20 stadiums?
Luton beat a whole host of top-tier clubs to Elliot Thorpe’s signature, and he is certainly a player that Luton fans can be excited for.
The recently-turned 21-year-old rejected a contract at extension at Tottenham Hotspur, in order to pave his way to first-team football quicker.
Operating as a central midfielder, Thorpe is an excellent dribbler of the ball and his marauding runs through the centre of the pitch has caused problems for opposing teams when he has played for Luton’s development squad.
The young midfielder is working under a manager who will not be shy of giving him a run in the first-team if deemed ready, but he could also benefit from embarking on a loan spell in the division below.
Aidan Francis-Clarke is seemingly further away from first-team football than Thorpe, but it is equally exciting to see how he progresses with the club’s academy.
The 17-year-old has been included on the bench for The Hatters already this season when Danny Hylton pulled up in the warm up against Swansea City.
The young defender has gained invaluable experience already this season, after partnering Sonny Bradley in a development game and shining in doing so.
Francis-Clarke is likely to progress with the club’s development squad in the near future, but a loan spell in the depths of the non-league could also be on the cards.
