Marcelo Bielsa has done a fine job transforming a failing Leeds United squad, with the Whites looking to secure promotion back to the top-flight for the first time since 2004.

Leeds’ form in recent weeks has been inconsistent, but Bielsa’s side are managing to keep pace with the Championship’s leaders with the division as tight as ever.

However, January is shaping into a huge month for the Whites, with Bielsa’s trimmed squad looking like it will need a New Year boost.

The quality that arrives at Elland Road needs to push the starting XI, but in turn, that will push fringe players further down the pecking order.

If that’s the case, departures will be expected too.

And, here at FLW, we take a look at Leeds’ squad and the players on the fringe, identifying TWO outcasts that would benefit from a move elsewhere in the New Year…

Pearce is well down the pecking order at Leeds, which was evident when Barry Douglas was out injured.

Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Gaetano Berardi were all preferred at left-back, with things looking bleak for Pearce.

The youngster needs a loan spell away from Elland Road to prove his class.

Baker is only on loan at Elland Road, but he’s well on the fringe.

It’s the Chelsea man’s second failed loan spell in the Championship, and in truth, he can’t afford another six months on the bench.

The midfielder needs to be playing regular football and setting himself up for the future.

January is the time for another fresh start unless something drastically changes.
