Having narrowly missed out on promotion in May, Leeds United will be looking to learn from their mistakes next season and thus finally end their hiatus from the Premier League.

Yet in order to achieve this goal, it is imperative that Marcelo Bielsa makes some big changes to his squad during the transfer window.

Whereas there is sure to be several departures between now and August, the Argentine should consider using pre-season as an opportunity to give some of the club’s forgotten players a chance to prove themselves.

Even if all this does is re-affirm Bielsa’s belief that they are not good enough to play regular football for the Whites, it will be worthy exercise as the last thing he would want is to let go a player who has the capabilities to thrive at Championship level.

Keeping this in mind, here are three players who we think need a big summer to stand a chance of getting back into Leeds’ first-team plans…

Vurnon Anita

Despite arriving at Elland Road in 2017 with a wealth of Premier League experience under his belt, Vurnon Anita ultimately failed to live up to expectations in his debut season and therefore it was hardly a shock when he was loaned out to Willem II last August.

Whereas he was fairly impressive during his spell in the Eredivisie, the pressure is on the former Newcastle United star to show Bielsa what he is made of as if he doesn't, he could be shown the door by the Argentine.

Eunan O’Kane

Ever since Bielsa launched his footballing revolution at Elland Road, the Republic of Ireland international has been cast aside with a loan spell at Luton Town ending in catastrophe after he broke his leg last September.

Still in rehabilitation from this injury, O'Kane will be hoping to change Bielsa's mind during pre-season and thus reclaim a spot in centre-midfield for the upcoming Championship campaign.
