Birmingham City are expected to be active in the January transfer market as they look to make the necessary additions to push for a top six finish.

Defeat at Cardiff on Saturday has left Pep Clotet's three points away from the play-off places but the recent signs are encouraging.

However, new faces are needed and The Sun (03/11, page 61) stated that Nahki Wells is someone the recruitment team want to bring to St. Andrew's.

The forward is contracted to Burnley but he is currently on loan at QPR where he has scored seven goals in 13 Championship games.

Whilst he agreed a deal to stay with the Londoners until the end of the campaign, the Clarets have a recall clause and the report suggested that Blues could pay £6m to sign Wells in the New Year.

Here we look at TWO knock-on effects this potential deal could have...

He could form a potentially lethal partnership with Lukas Jutkiewicz

The thought of Wells working with Lukas Jutkiewicz has to excite Blues fans as they should complement each other perfectly.

The target man will lead the line, take the hits and bring others in to play, with Wells capable of playing off him and getting plenty of chances as a result.

You only have to look at how Che Adams performances last season to see how a mobile striker can benefit from Jutkiewicz and he seems the ideal partner for the current R's man.

He could inspire a play-off push

Following on from that, if the duo do click, or if Wells could replicate his early season form with Blues, then they would have to be seen as genuine contenders for a top six finish.

Most fans are pleased with how the side are playing but they just aren't as clinical as they should be.

The 29-year-old could change that and could be the catalyst for a strong second half to the campaign.
