Nottingham Forest will hope to strengthen their squad this month as they aim for a top six finish this season under Sabri Lamouchi.

The Reds have managed to regain their form at the right time, with New Year’s Day’s 3-2 win at home to Blackburn Rovers making it three successive wins for Forest, after a five match winless run had started to threaten their prospects of going on and achieving a top six place this term.

One area that the Reds will be in need of improving in the transfer window is up front, with Forest needing to get more support for top scorer Lewis Grabban, who has been relied on heavily to lead the line for the club this season -  and he produced another strong performance against Blackburn to help fire Lamouchi’s side to another win.

Forest are now being linked with a move for Birmingham City striker Lukas Jutkiewicz, with the forward having been a key part of Blues’ starting line-up during the first half of the campaign, and he could offer the sort of physical presence that the Reds could do with up front.

Here then, we take a look at TWO potential knock on effects if the Reds secure a move for Jutkiewicz.

Grabban given a strike partner

Grabban has predominantly been Forest’s main man up front on his own this season, and although the striker has been in good form in front of goal having netted 14 goals in 25 Championship appearances so far this term, he has at times been a little isolated when the ball has been played up to him.

The arrival of Jutkiewicz would provide Lamouchi with the option of changing his formation slightly and getting someone up front alongside Grabban for certain games, and the striker showed last season at Birmingham that he is able to combine well with another forward, with him and Che Adams combining very well netting 36 league goals between them last term.

That would offer Forest another real threat for the second half of the season, and were Jutkiewicz to link up with Grabban as well as he did with Adams, then the Reds would have a real chance of going on and cementing their place in the top six.

QUIZ: What club did each of these 16 Nottingham Forest players sign from?

Rafa Mir’s loan spell coming to an end

Were Forest to secure a move for Jutkiewicz this month it would almost certainly spell the end for Mir’s time at the City Ground, with the striker having failed to make any real impact since he arrived at the City Ground on a season-long loan from Wolves.

Mir has not been able to offer anywhere near the same sort of threat in the last third as Grabban when he has been brought into the team by Lamouchi, and the striker has failed to score in any of his 11 Championship appearances for the Reds.

It looks likely that his loan spell with Forest will be coming to an end regardless of whether the Reds bring in another forward, but if they do then that would almost certainly seal Mir’s fate at the City Ground.
