Nottingham Forest are considering a summer move for Ryan Longman, according to reports from Football Insider.

The Brighton & Hove Albion starlet faces an uncertain future with just one year remaining on his contract at the AMEX Stadium.

The 20-year-old has made just one senior appearance for the Seagulls but did spend last term on loan with League One side AFC Wimbledon where he made 51 appearances in total, scoring nine goals in the process.

Given his contract situation it seems that Chris Hughton is keen to capitalise by bringing the player to the City Ground on a permanent basis, but would it be a good move?

Here are two knock-on effects if Forest can pull off a deal.

A cost-effective striking solution

Nottingham Forest are going to be looking for a new striker this summer and Ryan Longman could be the solution to that issue.

With Glenn Murray moving on and Lyle Taylor heavily linked with a move away it means that Chris Hughton will need competition for places in offensive areas as he plans for the future.

Longman is far from the finished article but this could prove to be a smart investment for the future as the 20-year-old is only going to get better.

Another piece of a talented, young squad

Chris Hughton really seems to be shifting his focus towards talented young players.

Brennan Johnson looks set to play an integral role for the team next season and if Ryan Longman comes in then he could be another very exciting player to gets fans off their seats at the City Ground.

Given the lack of funds available it seems that investing in young players could be a fruitful endeavor and that's clearly the direction that the club are moving in.
