The future of Josh Windass looks like it could rumble on and on this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday's star man enjoyed an excellent campaign on an individual level for the Owls after scoring 10 goals and creating six more for his teammates as the South Yorkshire side ultimately suffered relegation to League One.

As a result the 27-year-old is attracting plenty of interest with the latest reports from the Sheffield Star suggesting that Birmingham City have joined the hunt for the player.

If the Blues do solidify their interest in the player it could give Sheffield Wednesday something serious to think about. Here are two knock-on effects that will come with a potential deal.

The need to sign a new striker

Losing Josh Windass would be a massive blow for Sheffield Wednesday.

After losing so many players at the end of their contracts it already looks like the forward is going to take on a huge role at Hillsborough next season in terms of goalscoring responsibility.

If the 27-year-old was to leave then the Owls would face a big challenge to find a new striker, particularly given their current financial struggles.

Easing their financial woes

Sheffield Wednesday's current monetary issues could dictate whether this deals happens or not.

With funds limited going into the new season it seems that a deal to sell Josh Windass could be one of their only options as they eye a potential 7-figure sale.

Selling the player will only make a small difference in the grand scheme of their struggles, but there's no doubt that the interest could help the club out of their current predicament.
