Aston Villa endured a frustrating afternoon on Saturday with Reading snatching a late draw at Villa Park thanks to a stoppage-time penalty.

Given the manner of the draw, it will feel like two points dropped for Steve Bruce but there were a few positives for the West Midlands side.

One standout player was new signing Anwar El Ghazi. The skilful winger joined the club earlier in the week and was handed his debut from the start against the Royals.

And, as our graphic shows, he had a very good game in front of his new fans.

The 23-year-old provided the assist for Villa's only goal of the game with a fine cross, whilst he was also a threat throughout his time on the pitch with his dribbling ability.

El Ghazi also provided two key passes, highlighting how he can look up and make the right choice in the final third and he also managed three shots on goal.

The former Ajax man was withdrawn after 67 minutes but that was to be expected as he builds his fitness and adjusts to the speed of the Championship.

All in all, it's very positive signs for Villa as they had often been predictable when going forward.

There was a reliance on Jack Grealish and even though he is a fantastic player, they need someone to share the workload with him in terms of creativity.

With Yannick Bolasie to also add to the side, Bruce has a potentially exciting combination behind the striker and it could transform the side going forward.
