For many Charlton Athletic fans, the January transfer window ended up being rather underwhelming.

There was plenty of excitement heading into the month after the takeover by East Street Investments, but the new owners were clearly keen to be sensible, rather than splashing cash left, right and centre.

In the end, four new faces arrived in the shape of Andre Green, Aiden McGeady, David Davis and Matt Smith, so it will probably be in the summer when their financial muscles will truly be flexed.

Here, we take a look at TWO players they were linked with in the winter and state why the club should move for them again in a few months...

QUIZ: Can you identify these 15 Charlton players purely based on their date of birth and their birthplace?

There were no concrete rumours of a Charlton bid for the striker in January, following their summer interest, but Addicks' chairman Matt Southall did admit to discussing the forward when he met with his Peterborough counterpart Darragh MacAnthony last month.

The marksman looks set to be one of the most sought after players come the summer, with 23 goals to his name already this season, and it would be a serious statement of intent if the Londoners can get a deal done in the summer.

He is ready made for the Championship, if not higher, and would be a real coup for Lee Bowyer's side.

Marcus Browne

It is the middle of the park where Charlton arguably have the most room for improvement during the summer window.

During January they brought in both David Davis and Matt Smith to bolster the area after Conor Gallagher left for Swansea City but neither have provided that same energy and quality in the final third.

Browne has proven himself with Oxford United accross two spells, netting goals 12 in 56 games in total, and would surely jump at the chance to step up to the second-tier, with chances for Middlesbrough looking to be limited.

Bowyer has shown he can get the best out of young midfielders. Josh Cullen has stood out this season, as did Gallagher, so there is no reason similar cannot happen with Browne, following their previous links with the player.
