It has been a bit of a strange season for Reading so far as we head into the final months of the 2019/20 campaign in the Championship.

Starting the season with Jose Gomes at the helm, there was widespread uproar when he was sacked early on and replaced by club director Mark Bowen.

However, with the Royals now well clear of a relegation scrap 12 points off the play-off pace, optimism has returned and fans will be hoping that the business carried out in January will give them an edge.

But here we take a look at TWO regrets the Royals may have from the window heading into the season run-in...

Recruiting proven talent

It is probably the biggest cloud hanging over the club's new recruits.

Felipe Araruna has all the makings to be a good recruit for the future but having only ever played in Brazil up until now, it remains to be seen how much he will be able to add this month.

QUIZ: How much do you know about Reading’s January signings?

Ayub Masika at least has experience playing in Europe with Genk but having plied his trade in China until very recently, how he adapts to the Championship is also yet to be seen.

Defensive reinforcements

Reading have largely been impressive at the back under Bowen's stewardship but in the centre of defence they are looking rather thin on the ground.

With Matt Miazga continuing his recovery from injury, the club were left with no centre-back option on the bench during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Cardiff.

If either of Moore, Morrison or McIntyre pick up an injury, Bowen is going to have a tricky decision on his hands. Does he change shape? Or does he try to fashion a more makeshift centre-back?
