Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder watched on in frustration on Friday evening as his Blades side failed to break down a defensive Sheffield Wednesday side.

United dominated from start to finish, but only had a David McGoldrick penalty in terms of chances to really lay claim to an opportunity that should have hit the back of the net.

Plenty of possession and probing around the edge of the penalty area proved fruitless for United in the end, and manager Wilder will no doubt be keen to improve on one or two things he will have seen on Friday, despite being impressed in the main with his team.

The Blades should well last the pace this term if they can keep playing as they are, but we at FLW think Friday's game showed a few issues in the squad which Wilder might want to look at.

With that in mind, here's TWO issues Chris Wilder should look to address following on from the Steel City derby draw...

Attacking investment

It was a sign of the lack of spending power within the Blades squad when Wilder named his bench with only Leon Clarke and free transfer Conor Washington on there in terms of striking options.

Liverpool loanee Ben Woodburn was nowhere in sight again, and only Clarke made it onto the field in the 90 minutes as Wilder sought a different option up top.

This needs sorting out in January, and the Blades really do need to go and sign a top striker if they are to keep competing.

One too many passes?

For all the good play United had, there was growing frustrations around Bramall Lane towards the end as fans felt the side were overplaying somewhat.

There is a case to be made for this, and while it's important not to just aimlessly lump the ball into the area, there comes a time when the ball simply needs delivering into the box.

Strikers Sharp and McGoldrick were starved of quality service in the main, and Wilder might looks to sharpen things up going forward in wide areas.
