2 Ipswich Town transfer sagas to keep an eye on this week

Published

Ipswich Town will once again be looking to use the transfer market to their advantage this month as Kieran McKenna continues to assess his existing squad.

Things have started on a positive note for the former Manchester United coach, with his side picking up two wins in his opening two games against Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham respectively.

The challenge now will be to get the club moving up the league standings as they are still very much off the pace in the race for a play-off spot.

With the window now open there could well be some activity of note at Portman Road, especially as the Tractor Boys are backed by wealthy owners that have already shown that they are willing to provide the manager with all of the investment that they need to be successful.

Quiz: Can you name which club Ipswich Town signed these 28 midfielders from?

Here, we take a look at TWO Ipswich Town transfer sagas to keep an eye on this week…

Colin Oppong to Birmingham City

The young striker is currently on trial with the Blues and appears set to bring his spell with Ipswich to an end in the near future.

His contract with the club is due to expire this month and it appears he is surplus to requirements.

The target man originally joined the Tractor Boys back in January 2020 from Northern Irish side Cliftonville and has since gone on to earn a scholarship at Portman Road.

However with his progression having been somewhat limited, Oppong is now set to depart in the not too distant future.

Christian Walton to Ipswich

Having originally joined the Tractor Boys on a season long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, Walton has been recalled early by the Seagulls ahead of a potential sale.

This has in turn put Ipswich under pressure as they are said to be keen on signing the keeper on a permanent deal.

Walton is however said to be of interest to several Championship clubs, which means that Town could well be drawn into a bidding war for his services.

It is as yet unclear as to whether McKenna and co view a potential deal as being worth it or not.
