2 in, 1 out: The transfer scenarios that might play out at Peterborough United early in the summer transfer window

Peterborough United finished the season strongly under Grant McCann but were ultimately unable to avoid relegation from the Championship.

The Posh have been a formidable force in League One over the last decade and will be aiming for an immediate return to the second tier next season.

The club failed to assemble a squad capable of competing in the Championship for the large part in 2021/22, and will be hoping to make up for lost time in terms of their recruitment this summer.

Posh know what it takes to get out of League One, and have plenty of survivors in their squad from their second placed finish in 2020/21.

Here, we have taken a look at three transfer scenarios that might play out at Peterborough early in the summer transfer window…

Two in

Tyreece Simpson

Posh are one of a number of clubs interested in Ipswich Town striker Tyreece Simpson.

The 20-year-old is up for sale this summer, and a move away certainly appears beneficial for both parties.

Simpson scored 11 goals in the first half of the season with Swindon Town, before returning to his parent club, and may have gained admirers higher than the third tier.

With such a rich history of signing excellent strikers for third tier level, Simpson could be persuaded to make the move to London Road.

Reece Brown

Brown has had three loan spells at Posh from Huddersfield Town, in the last three seasons, and reaches the end of his contract at the John Smith’s Stadium this summer.

The 26-year-old could have a far greater influence on games in League One and would be a smart addition on a free.

Having worked with him at the back end of the season, McCann will probably have already decided if he wants Brown or not, for when the Terriers decide his future in the coming weeks.

Ronnie Edwards

Sought after ball playing centre back Ronnie Edwards could be set for a move to the Bundesliga this summer.

The 19-year-old earned a lot of plaudits in the first half of the season, and his sale could go some way to replenishing the losses the club will make after suffering relegation.

With his deal running until the summer of 2025, Posh are in a very strong position in looking to recoup a significant fee for his services, and that in turn could help fund their own targets in building a promotion pushing squad under McCann.
