Sheffield Wednesday currently sit one point and one place outside of the play-off zone and it has been inconsistency that has cost them this season.

Fantastic wins against the likes of Aston Villa and Huddersfield have been contrasted with sloppy losses against such teams as Burton Albion and Ipswich.

Last season's campaign ended with Sheffield Wednesday's heartbreaking defeat at Wembley against Hull, consigning the Owls to another year in the Championship.

The target will be promotion yet again this season but Carvalhal will be concerned by his team's worrying dips in and out of form.

Therefore he might be forced into action during the upcoming January transfer window.

But in order to bring players in, Carvalhal might be told to offload some fringe players to free up the funds and wage space.

Here are two players he could ship out and one player to arrive as a replacement this January.

OUT - Sergiu Bus

Romanian striker Sergiu Bus has only featured ten times in nearly two years at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 24-year-old is just eating up wages without offering anything to the team so he needs shipping out in January.

OUT - Adthe Nuhiu

Adthe Nuhiu has played eleven Championship games this season but is mainly an impact substitute.

The 27-year-old is a big target man but he has failed to score a single goal this year.

In fact, the Austrian's haul of 19 goals in 132 league games for the Owls is not good enough at all.

IN - Jordan Rhodes

Middlesbrough v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League

The Scottish Sun recently reported that Jordan Rhodes was open to a move to Sheffield Wednesday as their style of football suited him.

And what a signing he would be for Carvalhal.

With options of Gary Hooper, Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher and Jordan Rhodes up front, the Sheffield Wednesday attack would surely blow teams away in this league.

Sheffield Wednesday fans - what do you think? Would Rhodes be a good signing? Would you get rid of Bus and Nuhiu? Let us know in the comments below...
