A season to forget for Sheffield Wednesday, new boss Jos Luhukay will be anticipating the end of the current campaign and a summer transfer window in which he can rescue the dire situation engulfing the South Yorkshire side.

Play-off contenders for two years under Carlos Carvalhal, injuries have ravaged this talented squad and placed the Owls within risk of relegation, and huge changes are needed in the summer if the club are to be considered automatic promotion candidates once again.

Many have failed to step up amidst their difficulties, and Luhukay will turn to the market to bring in the player’s he feels can make the club competitive once more.

These are some of the changes Luhukay must make…

Imagine letting a goal scorer go for a playmaker that had failed to impress at derby County during his spell with the club.

This is exactly what Carvalhal allowed by swapping Sam Winnall for Jacob Butterfield for the season, and the ingenious plan has seriously backfired.

Butterfield has struggled, starting in less than half of the club’s game this season, and Winnall is flying high with the promotion chasing Rams.

Butterfield simply isn’t good enough, and will be allowed to leave when his loan expires.

The Owls need a playmaker, and there is nobody better below the Championship than Maddison.

The former Gateshead man has been in remarkable creative form this term, contributing close to twenty assists as the Posh have scored goals for fun in League One.

Looking the real deal, the young string puller appears ready to make the step up to the higher level, and Luhukay must strongly consider the player as his new midfield maestro.

His stats are impressive and although Wednesday will have to put money up to secure his talents, he could be the real deal at Hillsborough.

The Walsall man has consistently impressed at the Bescot Stadium, and his stats over the past two seasons are remarkable.

Goals and assists have come for the Greenwich-born man in abundance, and along with Maddison, there aren’t many better in the advanced playmaker role in the whole of the Football League.

Walsall are third tier strugglers and Oztumer has sadly outgrown the Saddlers, and simply must move on in the summer to further his career.

Wednesday must ensure they are at the front of the queue, with the player of Turkish descent certain to cost a lot less than his counterpart from Peterborough.
