Comfortably in mid-table but with a watchful eye over their shoulders, Queens Park Rangers appear to be well on the way to cementing their position in the Sky Bet Championship for another season.

The R’s have been lacklustre for much of the campaign, and fans will be disappointed to endure a heavy home defeat to Nottingham Forest this weekend in a game many would have earmarked as winnable given the Reds’ poor form under Aitor Karanka.

Manager Ian Holloway will realise that his side must begin to pick up results to avoid being sucked into the relegation scrap, but a few more wins between now and the end of the season will ensure he enters the transfer window sourcing player’s capable of competing at Championship level.

The former Blackpool man could be busy, with this possibly just the start of his business…

The former Newcastle United defender has just returned to first team affairs having been sidelined for six-months with a problematic knee injury, but is likely to move on in June when his contract in West London expires.

Perch has been a loyal servant since joining from Wigan Athletic in 2015, but the 32-year-old may not return to his best level following his recent injury woes.

Holloway must use the summer window to bolster his squad and make changes that will pave the way for a new era at Loftus Road, and Perch could be a casualty of a fresh approach.

Holloway utilised last summer’s transfer window to scour the lower reaches of the Football League for talent to bolster his squad, settling on Exeter City’s David Wheeler and Bright Samuel of Blackpool as the men to add quality in West London.

The pair haven’t hit the ground running, with a combination of injuries and form hindering their progress, but Holloway must consider returning to League Two for Forest Green Rovers striker Christian Doidge when the window reopens.

The 25-year-old was instrumental in the Gloucestershire-based side’s promotion to the Football League via the play-offs last season, and has continued his fine form at the higher level despite his side struggling towards the bottom for much of the season.

Doidge looks ready to step up, and Holloway could take a punt on him becoming his new marksman.

The 35-year-old’s ten year stay at Norwich City appears to be approaching its close this summer with his contract set to expire in June with no sign of an extension, and Holloway should consider taking advantage of Norwich’s mistake in letting the player go by swooping for his services.

The player has been the most consistent man at Carrow Road during the Canaries’ years yo-yoing between the top three tiers of the English game, and must be considered one of the most underrated stars of the second tier in recent times.

Hoolahan has continued to perform at a high standard this term despite his increasing age and the emergence of James Maddison, and Holloway will surely welcome such an experienced, but quality star into his side.

If the player can be convinced that his future lies to the west side of the capital, then he definitely has at least another year in the tank to perform at second tier level.
