There are just over two months until the winter transfer window opens in the New Year for managers up and down the country to add to their squad.

There is always a renewed sense of hope that dealings in the January window will benefit a club’s chances of improving and moving up the table.

Players who are deemed surplus to requirements will also leave clubs to free up space for new arrivals.

Mounting a play-off charge or getting out of a relegation battle can depend on one inspirational signing that comes half-way through the season

Barnsley will be no different to any other club in the EFL.

Darren Stendel will be continuing to assess squad ahead of the transfer window and looking on how he can improve them.

The Tykes currently sit fourth in League One after 15 games having amassed 28 points - seven off of league leaders Portsmouth.

Stendel will be aiming to improve on the club’s eight wins this term and try to continue a sustained promotion push, and that could well hinge on how their New Year dealings shape up.

With that said, here’s how we expect Barnsley's January business to pan out.

Brad Potts has been impressive for Barnsley this season and is one of the main reasons why they find themselves in the top six battling it out for a return to the Championship.

The 24-year-old has fives goals and two assists in 14 matches this term, and that could see interest attracted in the midfielder from club’s higher up the food chain.

Even with Barnsley doing well, if a well established second-tier side come in for Potts, he could well be off in the new year.

Cauley Woodrow was brought in on loan to replace Tom Bradshaw who moved to Millwall in August and has not played this season having sustained an injury.

With the striker still missing an addition will be needed, and there is no better at the moment than Exeter’s Jayden Stockley.

The 25-year-old has scored nine times this term to go with the 25 he got last year.

He would be the perfect fit for the style of play that Daniel Stendal is trying to play and would surely fire them back into the Championship.

With Bolton struggling in the league and their financial woes still not fully out of sight, there could be scope to see the Tykes try and swoop for the addition of Mark Beevers, who is from Barnsley.

They had previously been in for the defender when he was at Millwall, but a move to Bolton materialised ahead of a move to Oakwell.

His quality is undoubted at League One, and it would be a marquee signing for the club should they be able to coax him away from the University of Bolton stadium.

Wanderers could look to offload the defender to further balance the books.
