Blackburn Rovers have appointed Jon Dahl Tomasson as their new head coach, the Championship club have confirmed.

Rovers had been looking for a new figure to take charge of first-team affairs following the departure of Tony Mowbray at the end of the 2021/22 season.

They have now got their man, with Tomasson taking over at Ewood Park on a three-year deal until the summer of 2025.

While the 45-year-old will be looking to build on an encouraging eighth place finish in the Championship for Rovers last season, there are still a number of things he will have to address quickly at the club.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at two Blackburn dilemmas Tomasson will have to deal with immediately, now that his appointment has been announced.

Ben Brereton-Diaz future

One issue that looks to be at the centre of Blackburn's transfer business this summer, is the future of striker Ben Brereton-Diaz.

Having scored 22 goals for Rovers last season, it seems inevitable that the Chile international will be attracting plenty of attention over the course of the window, when he will be into the final year of his contract, making this the club's last chance to receive a fee for him.

As a result, Tomasson is likely to have plenty to think about with potential offers to the 23-year-old, and whether he wants to take that risk on keeping him for next season and losing him for free in 12 months, or to let him go, and make a decision on how to go about replacing his new club's top scorer.

Ryan Nyambe's contract

While Brereton-Diaz still has a year remaining on his contract at Blackburn, the same cannot be said of Ryan Nyambe.

The Namibian's deal has now come to an end, but he is still in talks with the club about extending his stay, which would ensure that Rovers are not left short on options in the right-back department were he to agree a new contract.

With that in mind, Tomasson will have to decide whether to try and convince Nyambe to sign a new deal, or to let him go, and pursue an alternative option in that position, in a transfer window where there are already a number of departing players whose voids Blackburn will need to fill.
