Following a difficult run of results, Leeds United appear to be back on track in their quest for playoff football, following wins over Middlesbrough and Barnsley.

Manager Thomas Christiansen had teetered on the edge of the sack but has seemingly secured his future for the time being, and will look to bridge the gap between his side and the playoff spots in the coming weeks.

Christiansen invested heavily in the summer transfer window, bringing in a number of new faces in his attempt to clean up a squad littered with the remnants of a bygone era, but not all of his stars have settled at the club.

The likes of Jay-Roy Grot, Pawel Cibicki and Mateusz Klich have failed to make their mark on the squad, and Christiansen may look to bring in a couple of new faces to make up for their failings.

Local rivals Huddersfield were promoted to the top-flight last season, and a couple of their players may be available in January having failed to adapt to Premier League football.

With that in mind, Christiansen could target these two Terriers…

Scott Malone

Malone joined Huddersfield in the summer from Fulham following their promotion, but has failed to nail down a regular starting role in the side.

German Chris Lowe has been preferred more often than not, with Malone making just five starts in the league this semester.

Not what the 26-year-old would have expected when he departed West London, Christiansen may look to take advantage of any doubts, and bring the impressive defender back to the Championship in January.

Malone was sensational in a Fulham side that scored for fun in the second tier last season, and would present a significant upgrade on Leeds’ current options at full-back.

Michael Hefele

Hefele was instrumental in Huddersfield’s rise to the top-flight, but has been outcasted from David Wagner’s starting XI since promotion.

Yet to make a start in the league and appearing for just a single minute throughout the entire campaign, the 27-year-old German will grow restless waiting in the wings, and Christiansen could offer him an escape route in the new year.

Leeds have looked frail at the back at times, and the introduction of the big defender would not only provide the Dane with another option, but force the likes of Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper to improve their games.

If Hefele does indeed become available. Christiansen should find the funds to bring the player to Elland Road.
