Portsmouth haven't made the hottest start to this year's campaign following their loss in the play-off semi-final last year. They currently are 16th in the table with 13 points.

However, they have one or two games in hand on most of the teams around them. If taken advantage of it could put them into a much more comfortable midtable position.

Meanwhile, they're currently only 4 points above relegation and fans have begun to turn on Kenny Jackett, who may not have much longer at the club unless he can turn it around.

It's not just about the manager though, so which players have and haven't impressed this season...

Hot - Marcus Harness

The 23-year-old, Burton Albion graduate arrived in summer to the south coast for an undisclosed fee. Since joining, he's started 7 league matches with another substitute appearance. He's contributed to 3 of their 12 goals so far.

He's impressed with his dribbling ability and excellent athleticism. The skilful player has flair and at this level is the type of player who can change a game and make a real impact. He's therefore impressed Pompey fans so far.

He's not afraid to try things, even if he can lose the ball a lot. As he gains more experience and maturity as a player, his decision making will improve.

Although his risk-taking can be praised when things come off and he can continue to make an impact on the game, if he can't and Portsmouth enter a period of bad form you could easily imagine Harness becoming less popular. Hopefully, the promising winger can continue his early form and effectiveness in the final third.

Hot - Christian Burgess

Pompey have conceded the 4th least goals in the league so far. Burgess has played in all 10 of their matches, only Marquis and Tom Naylor have done the same. Burgess is a physical presence at 6'5", primarily playing as a centre half but has been used as a right-back twice.

He signed in 2015 from Peterborough and has gone on to make over 150 appearances for the club in the 4 years since signing and is now 28 years old.

He's shown his strength in the air and in defensive challenges, which he wins 68% of. He makes a good amount of interceptions and boasts a good passing accuracy of 79% which has helped Portsmouth boast the 4th best possession numbers in the league.

Not - Gareth Evans

Signing in 2015 along with Burgess, Evans has over 160 appearances for Portsmouth. He's been ever-present in their team since. He's a midfielder who can score goals, scoring 8 non-penalty goals last season. He's got 2 goals this season, a good counter-attack against Doncaster and from winning the ball off the centre-half against Coventry.

The 31-year-old is an excellent set-piece taker and creates chances through them. But, in open play only creates one chance per 90 minutes and hasn't got an assist yet.

Evans loses the ball a lot and is very weak in the air, winning 22% of the time. He's mainly played on the wings this season despite originally being a full-back. Even for a winger, his defensive output is very low and it's understandable why he was converted to a more attacking role.

Not - John Marquis

Impressive goalscoring in the last three seasons for Doncaster in League One and Two, earnt him a move to Portsmouth in the summer. However, the goal output hasn't carried over with just 1 goal in 10 appearances.

Despite high hopes for the striker, he's failed to live up to expectations so far. He hasn't finished some of the chances you might have expected before and is underperforming his expected goals. He's struggling to take many shots, just 1.4 per 90. His passing accuracy has also dropped compared to previous seasons and is struggling to click with this Pompey side so far.
