Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland are among several sides that have been keeping an eye on Brighton and Hove Albion forward Deniz Undav, according to last month's report from Football League World.

At that point, it was also believed that the Championship duo had made loan enquiries for him along with Burnley, Coventry City, Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers, though the Clarets may be out of the race for him now with Vincent Kompany's side signing Lyle Foster.

Another FLW exclusive last week revealed that Blackburn and the Black Cats had retained their interest in luring the Seagulls' forward away from the south coast as well as Norwich, with Millwall and West Bromwich Albion joining the race since.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's side and Tony Mowbray's men have also reportedly been in a tussle for Leeds United's Joe Gelhardt and with this, it's currently unclear whether one or both of these sides will make offers to recruit Undav.

One thing that's certain is the fact both sides will be looking to bring in a new forward or two, with Blackburn seeing George Hirst recalled by Leicester City and Mowbray's men seeing Ellis Simms leave and Ross Stewart linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light.

The Brighton man could potentially be a suitable option for both teams and with this, we take a look at his statistics this season.

It's quite difficult to measure how suitable he would be for the second-tier sides because of the fact his game time has been limited, with all of his Premier League appearances during the 2022/23 campaign coming from the bench.

Appearing 12 times in all competitions, he has scored twice and that isn't exactly a bad record considering some of these displays came in the form of short cameos, scoring against Forest Green Rovers in the Carabao Cup and contributing to the Seagulls' hammering against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup earlier this month.

He has also executed 83.3% of his passes to the final third and 80% of his long passes, though he attempts less than one of the latter per game.

The side that wins the race for him this month may benefit from keeping the ball on the floor though, winning just 22.2% of his aerial duels during 2022/23 and that comes as no surprise considering he isn't the tallest player.

Also making just 0.57 interceptions per game and winning less than half (45.5%) of his defensive duels, the 26-year-old will need to sharpen up if he wants to be an asset for Blackburn or the Black Cats, though the fact 54.5% of his shots this season have been on target is promising.

If he can be a prolific figure at either team, he could end up being the difference in terms of claiming a top-six place with Ben Brereton Diaz and Ross Stewart already in excellent form for their respective sides this season.

He may have no assists to his name in 12 appearances this term, but he has shown at past clubs that he can be a creator as well as a goalscorer and that's why several second-tier sides should be in the race for Undav.
