Wigan marked their return to the Championship in fine style at the weekend as they put Sheffield Wednesday away with a fine 3-2 win.

Many were intrigued to see how the Latics would adapt to life back in the second tier and it looks as though they are going to be very competitive indeed.

Of course, it is early days and the season is long but if they stay as positive as they did against Wednesday and on the front foot, they'll give plenty of sides headaches.

And, summing up their display, Michael Jacobs shone out wide with two fine goals and a great set of stats otherwise.

Here, we look at his performance in our latest FLW Spotlight:

Two goals were obviously the highlight for Jacobs but his all-round contribution out wide suggested he, like his team, is more than ready to compete in the second tier.

He took men on, cracked away shots and laid on chances for his team-mates, whilst the likes of Nick Powell and Will Grigg helped the Latics give the Owls an opening day to forget.

Paul Cook and his men showed no fear in League One last season and, if this performance from them and Jacobs is anything to go by, there'll be plenty more where that came from this year too.

A thrilling start for the men from the DW.
