Sunderland travel to high-flying Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, hoping to grab a win that could see them return to the top six in League One.

The Wearside club are on the hunt for a new manager, after Jack Ross was sacked last week, just hours before their EFL Trophy match against Grimsby Town.

Ross guided Sunderland to two finals last season, however after losing both the Checkatrade Trophy final to Portsmouth, and more importantly the play-off final against Charlton Athletic, the Scotsman was under pressure to deliver automatic promotion this season.

Last weekend's dismal performance and defeat at Lincoln City proved to be his final game in charge.

So, let’s look at TWO in-form players and TWO players that will be looking for a fresh start under their new manager.

Hot: Max Power

Max Power has always been known for his ability to score goals from midfield. He scored a brilliant goal against Sheffield United in their 0-1 win at Brammal Lane in the League Cup 3rd round.

Just three days later, the former Wigan Athletic man scored an even better strike, finding the top corner from around 20 yards out. A goal that has been nominated for EFL goal of the month award, for September.

Power is finding his feet at Sunderland and starting regularly, he will be hoping to continue that form under the new manager.

Hot: Marc McNulty

Sunderland signed striker Marc McNulty on a season-long loan deal, in the summer from Reading FC. The forward has so far registered four goals, including a goal against Grimsby Town in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy match.

With Will Grigg mis-firing, Jack Ross was relying on McNulty and Charlie Wyke to score their goals. The new manager must find a solution to their goal problems, McNulty is a proven striker in this division and will score goals, if given the opportunities.

Not: Jon McLaughlin

The Scottish goalkeeper was one of Sunderland’s outstanding performers last season. In particular, McLaughlin produced a man of the match display in the second leg of the play-offs semi finals, against Portsmouth.

In this campaign, the Scottish international has made a number of errors, leading to goals. With Lee Burge playing well in the cup competitions, McLaughlin could be about to lose his starting spot.

Not: Grant Leadbitter

Leadbitter was appointed club captain at the start of this season, following Lee Cattermole’s departure.

However, after the good form of George Dobson and Max Power, it’s hard to see a way back in the side for the former Middlesbrough man.

With a new manager set to be appointed, perhaps Leadbitter will be replaced as Sunderland captain. Jordan Willis captained Coventry and will be in with a shout of getting the armband at the Stadium of Light.
