Things aren't exactly going well for Sheffield Wednesday at the minute.

Saturday's defeat at Norwich means that having now gone six games, the Owls remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table, four points from safety.

As a result, the reinforcements they bring in in next month's transfer window, could be absolutely vital for Tony Pulis' side.

However, should they feel they do not have the time to wait until then, or the funds to spend on player signings, they do have the option of exploring the free agent market, where they of course do not have to wait until the market opens, and would not have to pay any fees to any other clubs.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at two free agents the Owls could sign, in order to strengthen their side, should look to go down that particular route.

Oumar Niasse

With just nine league goals in 16 games so far this season, it seems clear that Wednesday are going to have to add some extra attacking firepower to their ranks sooner rather than later.

Niasse has previously proven that he can score goals in top-flight football, so he could be a decent asset at Championship level, and is available having left Everton at the end of last season.

Indeed, with a physical presence and a quick turn of pace as well, the Senegal international is someone who could fit in well with the style of play that Pulis is looking to implement at Hillsborough, and with the fresh opportunity it could give him in England, this could be an appealing deal to both parties.

Which club did Sheffield Wednesday sign these 25 players from?

Cheick Keita

Another position that Pulis' side currently look short on numbers in, and could therefore look to strengthen in the free-agent market is at left-back.

One player who is available now in that position is Cheick Keita, following his exit from Birmingham last summer. Though he never got too many chances at St Andrew's, the now-24-year-old did show flashes of potential, perhaps best evidenced by Bologna's willingness to take him on loan to Serie A from the Blues a few seasons ago.

Indeed, Keita could be keen to get another crack at Championship football after that challenging period in the Midlands, and his versatility that allows him to play in a role further forward on the left-hand side could make him an asset if Pulis elects to rotate formations, and players, during the course of the season.
