Rotherham United will be content with the start they have made the Championship season as they aim to make sure that they avoid relegation back down to League One.

Paul Warne’s side have remained competitive in nearly all of their matches so far this season and have managed to pick up some good results against the likes Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday and Bournemouth to show that they can more than hold their own.

Having been relegated from the Championship in the 2018/19 season, Rotherham will be all too well aware of the need to ensure they continue to pick up the points that their performances have been deserving of. In order to do that they will need to strengthen in January and maybe even assess the free-agents market to add to their squad.

The wide positions have been a real issue for the Millers so far this campaign, with injuries picked up to the influential Kieran Sadlier and Chiedozie Ogbene. That has seen a lot of pressure fall upon loan signing Florian Jozefzoon and even seen Warne deploy Matthew Olosunde on the wing at times.

With that in mind, here we take a look at TWO potential free-agent signings that could solve this issue for the Millers…

Nathan Dyer

One thing that Warne demands from his side is the right attitude and high work rate, that is something that the vastly experienced presence of Nathan Dyer would be able to provide for the Millers.

The 33-year-old finally left Swansea City in the summer after 11 years with the Welsh club in which time he established himself as a crucial player in their run to the Premier League.

Dyer would offer Rotherham plenty of quality down the right-hand side of their midfield and he would come with that all-important Championship experience that could provide vital in helping the Millers edge tight matches. Given he is yet to find a new club he could well be open to the move.

The only issue would be over his potential fitness, with the winger having only made nine appearances for Swansea last term in the Championship. Warne’s fitness demands on his players might mean if he arrived, he would need to spend time on the training field before being thrown into action.

Andre Green

On the alternative age spectrum to Dyer, one player that could be considered by the Millers is Andre Green. The 22-year-old is a player that has plenty of ability and talent but he is yet to really find a home where he can establish himself and he is getting to the stage in his career where he needs to settle at the right place.

Warne could well be the perfect sort of manager to motivate and get the best out of Green, who did enjoy a decent loan spell with Charlton Athletic in the Championship last term. The Millers boss would be able to make him aware that he must have the right attitude to play for his side and that might help to provide more of a consistency to his game.

Green would be a gamble of a signing, but he would offer the ability to produce something out of nothing that the Millers maybe lack at the moment. He could therefore be worth a go on a short-term deal to help cover for injuries in the wide positions.
