Nottingham Forest bid farewell to a number of first-team players over the course of the summer and the January transfer window.

Sabri Lamouchi wasted no time in trimming his squad upon his arrival at the City Ground in the summer, and reshaped his squad in their bid for promotion to the Premier League in January.

In the summer, plenty of strikers bid farewell to the City Ground, with Jason Cummings, Apostolos Vellios, Karim Ansarifard, Hillal Soudani and Tyler Walker all departing the East Midlands club.

Walker was recalled and Nuno da Costa last month in a desperate attempt to add depth to their attacking armory, which could have proved to be detrimental in another season.

Forest have said goodbye to plenty of players over the years, but some departures have proved to be mistakes and they have gone on to make Forest lick their wounds in the end.

Here, we take a look at two players Forest that the club shouldn't have bid farewell to...

Michail Antonio

Antonio was exceptional for Forest following his £1.5m arrival from Sheffield Wednesday in 2014, scoring 15 goals and adding a further 14 assists for the Reds in the 14/15 campaign.

But Antonio was to spend only one year at the City Ground despite signing a three-year deal on Trentside, with the winger joining West Ham United for a reported fee of £7m.

Looking back, Forest were ripped off and could have held out for a much higher price given how long was left on Antonio's deal and what he's gone on to do.

The 29-year-old is now a key player for West Ham United in the Premier League, and if it wasn't for injuries, he could have really kicked on after being called up to the England squad.

Britt Assombalonga

Similarly, Assombalonga was exceptional for Forest upon his arrival from Peterborough United in 2014, joining for around £5.5m.

The striker scored 15 goals in his opening campaign for the Reds, but injury problems really put a downer on his spell on Trentside.

In the summer of 2017, Middlesbrough completed the £15m signing of the 26-year-old, and even though Forest received a lot of money for his services, they were unable to replace him for a lengthy period of time.
