Birmingham City are on one of their best runs of the season so far, with the Blues having gone five games unbeaten in the Championship, thus seeing them move progressively up the league standings.

The addition of Scott Hogan has been something of a revelation for the St Andrew's outfit, with the Aston Villa loanee having really hit the ground running since making his cross-city move.

Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham continues to perform well, with the teenager putting in some eye catching showings which show likeness to a player that has been playing for ten years longer than the Birmingham academy product.

Despite their recent success, there is also likely to be a few players that fans will wish the club didn't let go over the years.

Here, we take a look at TWO former Birmingham City players that the club shouldn't have let go....

Amari'i Bell

The former Blues defender was let go on a free transfer by the Midlands club and has since gone on to establish himself as a solid Championship left back with Blackburn Rovers.

The 25-year-old joined Fleetwood Town after leaving the Blues and quickly became one of the club's top performers, contributing 12 assists and seven goals during his time at the League One club.

Naturally his form on the left hand side did not go unnoticed and it was Rovers who won the race for his signature as they parted with a substantial fee for a club of Fleetwood's size to secure the signing of the defender.

Bell's dribbling and crossing abilities would have made him a good option for the Blues in what has been a problem position for the club across a few seasons to date.

Andrew Shinnie

The versatile midfielder previously left the Blues back in the 2018/2019 season after spending a few campaigns out on loan as he looked to gain regular game time.

The midfielder is now at Luton Town and it is fair to say he has made the most of his time with the Championship club so far, notching an impressive 16 assists already for the Hatters, perhaps showing the Blues what they are missing.

Capable of playing in several positions across the midfield, Shinnie would have in theory provided a good option for Clotet to utilise in order to solidify proceedings in the centre of the park.

Ultimately the Scotsman moved on from St Andrew's but perhaps there is a sense of what might have been surrounding the former Hibernian utility man.
